    Default GPS Tracking

    Screen Magic
Does anyone use a GPS Tracking service to track their crews locations in the field? I know some services are free like Google Latitude, however that doesnt work on alot of phones and it seems to drain the battery. Most of our field phones are ic502's (Motorola) on the Sprint Nextel service.

Heck Yes I do! You can purchase a device called Zoombak. It works very well. The good news is that it is very inexpensive compared to other GPS tracking devices out on the market. I have three of the devices installed on my vans so far. You can do the following with it:

    - Follow your crews via their website. It gives birds eye view and map view. Updates every 5 minutes.
    - Text "Find" to Zoombak and it will text you back with your vehicle location on your mobile phone. Totally free all the time!
    - Set up speed alerts- you can set up the maximum speed you want to monitor. Zoombak will text you when you vehicle exceeds that limit.
    - Stores vehicle history (where its been) for up to 90 days.
    - Very easy to install. 2 wires. 1 goes into your fuse box- 1 is grounded. I just used cable ties to secure mine under dash. I installed mine in less tha 5 minutes. Seriously- its that easy.

You can find them at Radioshack, Bestbuy, and Pepboys Auto Stores. I have been using the product for just under a year and I love it.

The car installation kit with the zoombak was about $150.00 and the service was something like $150.00 a year if paid in advance. Or you can pay monthly for $14.99.

Not only is it great for tracking crews, its also piece of mind in case your vehicle gets stolen. I just checked and they have some sweet deals going on now. Their website is Zoombak Personal GPS Locators, Portable GPS Tracker, GPS Vehicle Tracking, Family Car GPS Tracking, Pet GPS Tracking, Personal GPS Tracking Systems

We use MOSHI for gps tracking. We have it in all 3 vehicels. It was not expensive to have installed and for the year was cheap.
It updates every 20 seconds or so. It sends notifications to my computer and to my husbands I-phone when the vehicle is speeding or out of area.
