Default How to get hard water build up off windows?

    Clearance
I am new at this; I have only cleaned about 5 homes. I have one that I will be cleaning next week that has a lot of hard water build up on the outside windows on one side of the house. How do I get this off and what should I charge extra? Thanks

There Rw many hard water stain removal products. Check out the WCR Store. They are available as liquids, powders, and pastes, in addition to mechanical devices such as Mr. Hard Water and GlassRenu.

Locally, you can purchase items at hardware stores. Some products are more effective on certain stains than others. Use as instructed and use personal protective equipment (chemical gloves, mask/respirator, and goggles.)

Some are acid-based; some won't work due the level of damage already on the glass.

Use the Search feature -- there are lots of threads on the subject.

Thanks, Have you ever used Scrub Off by Ettore? I found it at Lowe's but wasn't sure if it worked or how well it worked.

It's sitting on a shelf, awaiting evaluation now for a year...

My go-to is SafeRestore -- now OneRestore.

Gonna use some CC550 on some nasty stuff Tuesday.

Scrub off on a white scrubby should work fine. Follow directions.

I was in your boat a few weeks ago. I'm new to window cleaning too. I had only cleaned 2 houses before a client asked me to remove some hard water stains on several of his windows. I was spooked about not knowing what product to use and the possibility of damaging the glass with chemicals.

I came here and I got set straight

Like llaczko I highly recommend One Restore. It's easy to use and it certainly isn't as spooky as CC550.

I bought a spray bottle, put some diluted One Restore in it, sprayed it on the window, smoothed out the solution with a white scrub, let it sit for 30 seconds, then washed it off with water, and squeegeed the excess water off. Viola! The windows were spotless. I couldn't believe how great it worked, and how simple it was to use. The homeowner loved the job and ended up giving me a tip

One thing I do recommend is that you test a small area of the window before using it on the whole window. It's a good safety precaution. You never know how some windows might react to the solution.

In my experience, it's rare that a simple spray, quick dwell, and rinse removes stains with SafeRestore.

Typically, agitation and/or bronze wool and scraping, varying dwell time -- and repeat -- is required.
