Marketing budget risk vs. reward
Hi I am trying to figure out how much to spend on marketing per month. Do you guys have a ballpark? I am a one person company with one or two helpers when it gets busy. I dont know where to put my money and what sources are best. The economy seems to suck right now probably cause it's February and magazine guys are asking $250 for an ad. Thanks.

First, how much is your actual and/or desired and/or projected income per month? Telling you marketing dollar amounts won't really help. It's way better to talk percentages.
Second, how fast do you want to grow?
Third, please try not to blame the economy. Or the magazine guys.

What's your percentage, Michael? I think Chris said on another thread that 20% was what they shot for. You?

Well I think 5-8 K a month in the winter would be good income. And then in the busier time maybe 15k per month

The bigger risk is NOT advertising!

You could generate a bit of work with $250 for sure.. But probably not through a magazine ad.
If I had $250 I would get some fliers made up. Print as many as you can for $250 pass them out in the right areas and your off to a great start.
Obviously there are other things to consider, Flier design, print at home or?, how to distribute them etc..
10% I think is just about right..

He does have more important things to do but he seems to be focused on redistributing MY wealth and I take offense to that.
